IMAGE-GUIDED PERCUTANEOUS MANAGEMENT OF BACK PAIN By Edward J. Czarnecki, MD Diagnosis and management of patients with neck or low back pain with or without a radicular component is oftentimes very complex. Imaging modalities such as plain radiographs, magnetic resonance imaging, myelography, computed tomography, and discography can be used to diagnose the etiology of the patient's pain. Whether or not the patient is to be treated conservatively or surgically, imaging-guided Percutaneous pain management can be utilized for symptom alleviation as well as to confirm the patient's diagnosis. Pain management interventions include facet blocks, nerve root/neural foraminal blocks, epidural steroid injections (interlaminar vs. sacral hiatus), sacroiliac blocks and vertebroplasty. Utilizing the expertise of fellowship-trained neuroradiologists, Drs. Baka, Crosby, Czarnecki, and Free, with correlative imaging, fluoroscopy, and/or fast-scanning computed tomography, these procedures can be performed efficiently and with minimal patient risk or discomfort. We would be happy to discuss these procedures with you related to specific patients. |
